Safety Culture
Workshops & Training
When an incident happens, the traditional instinct is to ask: "Who did this?" This approach is fast, easy and dangerous.
It relies on the "Bad Apple" theory, the idea that if you remove the individual, you remove the risk.
But safety science proves otherwise. By focusing on the Who, you create a culture of fear. And where there is fear, there is silence. Near-misses go unreported, risks stay hidden and the same accidents happen again and again.

Move from blame to WHY

The Better Question: "Why did it make sense?"
Most unsafe behaviours are not acts of rebellion. They are the result of complex interactions between the worker and their environment.
To build a Proactive Safety Culture, we must stop asking "Who is at fault?" and start asking the question that actually prevents future harm: "Why did it make sense for that person to act that way, at that moment?"
Was it fatigue? Was it a confusing procedure? Was it a "routine violation" that has been tolerated by supervisors for months because it saves time?
It’s Not "No Blame." It’s "Just Culture."
The 90% Reality - up to 90% of unsafe behaviours are driven by organisational factors, not individuals.
Behavioural Safety and Safety Culture for Managers and Supervisors
Duration: 1 Day | Format: Interactive Training
This training courses equip your team with the psychology and "soft skills" to understand and influence behaviour.
We teach Directors, Managers and Supervisors how to move from Transactional Leadership (managing rules and punishments) to Transformational Leadership (inspiring ownership).
The Bradley Curve: Learn how to move your organisation from "Dependent" (supervision-reliant) to "Interdependent" (team ownership).
The "Why" of Safety: Shift the focus from "Who is to blame?" to "Why did it make sense?" to understand the systemic drivers of risk.
Observation & Feedback: The Shift to Guidance. Your supervisors are your frontline defence. We equip them with the practical tools to spot unsafe habits and intervene without causing conflict.
The SBI Model: We teach the Situation-Behaviour-Impact framework to ensure feedback is factual, specific and non-aggressive.
Spotting "Risk Traps": It is not just about spotting missing PPE. We train supervisors to identify the hidden psychological precursors to error, such as fatigue, rushing and complacency.
The ABC Model: Understand how Antecedents (triggers) and Consequences (responses) shape Behaviour.
Just Culture & Accountability: From Fear to Fairness. A "No Blame" culture does not mean no accountability. We teach managers how to build a Just Culture where the workforce feels safe to speak up. We train your team to distinguish between Human Error (support needed), At-Risk Behaviour (coaching needed) and Reckless Behaviour (discipline needed)...

Turn Theory Into Action: Customised Safety Culture Workshops
Format: Bespoke / Hands-On | Duration: 1-2 Days
While our training courses build (individual) competence, a Workshop is a facilitated intervention designed to solve specific operational challenges using your own site data.
Part 1: The Essentials
Every workshop begins with a condensed, high-impact training session to ensure every participant speaks the same language.
• Core Concepts: We rapidly cover the essentials of the ABC Model, Just Culture and the Psychology of Risk before we start the work.
Part 2: The Diagnosis (Hands-On Application)
"Analysing Your Reality" We move away from textbooks and put your reality on the table. Using the "Why vs. Who" method, we can dissect your actual recent incidents, near-misses or cultural friction points or use fictional examples.
• Identify "Risk Traps": We map out the specific environmental and organisational factors (e.g., conflicting deadlines, fatigue, complex procedures) that are driving unsafe behaviour in your company.
• The Substitution Test: We apply Just Culture tools to real scenarios to determine if your current issues are "Systemic Failures" or actual "Reckless Behaviours."
Part 3: The Strategy (6-Phase Roadmap)
"Building the Solution" We facilitate the co-creation of a bespoke action plan using our 6-Phase Behavioural Safety Strategy:
1. Assess: Benchmarking your current position on the Bradley Curve.
2. Goal Set: Defining SMART goals for cultural maturity.
3. Strategise: Agreeing on the specific interventions (e.g., new briefing formats, observation schedules).
4. Implement: Assigning ownership for the rollout.
5. Measure: Shifting from "Lagging Indicators" (injury rates) to "Leading Indicators" (positive safety observations and engagement rates).
6. Integrate: Embedding these changes into your daily onboarding and operational rhythm.
The Outcome: You leave with a Strategic Roadmap, agreed owners and a clear path to moving your culture from "Reactive" to "Interdependent."
Ongoing Strategic Partnership
Culture change is a marathon, not a sprint. We stay with you to ensure the new habits stick.
You cannot fix ten years of ingrained habits with a single workshop. The "Sugar Rush" effect, where enthusiasm spikes after training but fades after a month, is the enemy of safety performance. We offer ongoing support keeping the momentum going when operational pressures try to push safety back down the priority list.
1. Quarterly "Pulse Checks" & Re-Calibration
We provide an objective and third-party assessment of your progress.
• Running Safety Climate Surveys: Measuring the shift in perception over 6, 12 or 18 months.
• Site Reality Checks: We visit your sites to verify if the "classroom theory" is being applied in the reality.
• Drift Prevention: Identifying where old bad habits are creeping back in and correcting them early.
2. Leadership Coaching & Mentoring
Leaders need support too. We provide 1-on-1 coaching for Directors and Managers to help them navigate specific cultural friction points.
• The "Tug-of-War" Support: When productivity pressures mount, we help your leaders maintain the balance so safety isn't compromised.
• Incident Debriefs: We sit on your investigation panels to ensure you are applying Just Culture principles (asking "Why" not "Who") when things go wrong.
3. Data Analysis: From Noise to Signal
Most companies drown in data but starve for insight. We take your monthly safety stats and turn them into strategy.
• Leading Indicators Analysis: We analyse your observation cards and near-miss reports to spot trends before they become accidents.
• Board Reporting: We help you craft board reports that focus on cultural maturity and leading behaviours.
